Our Facilities...
Loughmore NS is an extremely progressive school with excellent facilities for the provision of the holistic education of all its pupils.
The original school building houses our reception area, staffroom, secretary’s office, a large 5th & 6th classroom, large learning support room – complete with cooking facilities, a comfortable and bright Special Education teaching room and a shared resources/book rental store room. The new school extension boasts three large classrooms, all with toilets ensuite, and also a PE equipment/photocopying room. All classrooms are furnished with at least three laptop computers, new interactive 75" digi-boards, and every kind of educational equipment/games/books imaginable. The heating system in the entire school was renovated over the summer 2014 and all rooms were newly painted and organised.
In September 2013, Loughmore NS established of an ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) Class called ‘Solas’ in the school. It was provisionally housed in a spare classroom in the school, and was carefully planned and structured with close collaboration between staff, parents, pupils, the North Tipperary Intervention Team and our SENO. A wonderful first year was had by all concerned with Solas and there is a wonderful team in place in the class under the very capable guidance and direction of teacher Niamh Gleeson. We extended our ASD facilities in September 2014 with the addition of a second class – Solas#2, which operated under the direction of teacher Brendan Maher. The fundamental function of Solas is inclusion, specifically to prepare our pupils on the Autistic Spectrum to gradually integrate into our mainstream classes and the ethos and spirit of Solas has well and truly been adopted by the whole school and fostered by the school community. Our Solas class is a fantastic addition to our school and our great new facilities are of benefit to all of our pupils and staff in mainstream classes also.
The building of a two new ASD classrooms (ASD Unit) and an adjoining Multi-Sensory Room and Withdrawal Snoezlan Room were subsequently sanctioned by the Department of Education and this unit was completed in October 2014.We also have a new SET classroom and Principal’s Office.
Outside the children enjoy the use of over three acres of playing space, including a 2.1 acre playing field, complete with boys and girls dressing rooms. The junior school yard is tarmacadam and is colourfully decorated with painted games. The children enjoy swings, monkeybars, a slide and a tree house in our green playground area adjoining the junior yard. In August 2017 we purchased a new playset for the senior school yard also.
A new tarmacadam school yard, complete with basketball court, was built over the summer of 2013 and boasts a new picnic area and a school garden also in which every pupil gets to practice their horticultural skills, and reap the fruits of their labour at harvest-time!
Loughmore NS takes pride in being a Green School, achieving our first Green Flag from An Taisce in May 2013! We were also awarded 1st place in the North Tipperary Tidy Schools Competition in the Templemore Electoral Area in 2013.Our second Green Flag was awarded in May 2015 and a Third Green Flag awarded in May 2017. We also won first place in the Templemore Electoral Area in the Water conservation School’s Competition in June 2017.
The children
experience dynamic and fun interaction with a packed curriculum here in
Loughmore NS, and we also provide for extracurricular activities. The pupils of
Loughmore NS have regular access to experts in such fields as music, art,
sports training, etc. We attend regular swimming lessons in the Garda College
in neighbouring Templemore, and partake in local quizzes/competitions regularly
also.
We have recently established an Infant After-school Club which caters for junior and senior infant pupils between 2pm-3pm daily. We have state of the art facilities to cater for the individual needs of our pupils, and we are extremely inclusive, nurturing and proactive in catering for pupils with special needs also.
Loughmore, was originally called Luachma which translates as ‘reward field’. We work tirelessly here in Loughmore NS to maintain our position as a centre of educational, sporting and cultural excellence in the community – a reward field for all our pupils.
Please direct any enquires you may have regarding our facilities or enrolment applications to our school office, or call in to visit us and see for yourselves!
We opened our special classes in September 2013 and 2014 respectively. This has been the most fantastic addition to our school and taught us much about the importance of true integration, compassion and creativity. Solas is not just an extension of our school, it permeates our whole school in the most wonderful and inclusive manner. One for all and all for one!
